Long Live the Man!

Today I celebrate my first karwachauth. It is indeed a beautiful feeling. My mom-n-law came down from India especially to give me my first sargi...I was just overwelhmed with the whole thing. It's 10:21 am and I am so excited about this.

Many of you who would be reading this maybe don't know about this occassion and why is it performed...Ahem Ahem...Allow me...

The story goes like this... The Legend Of Karva

According to a legend, a woman named Karva was deeply devoted to her husband. One day while bathing, he was caught by a crocodile. Karva came running and bound the crocodile with a cotton yarn. She then went to Yama, the Lord of the death, and requested him to send the offending crocodile to hell. When Yama refused, she threatened to curse him. Afraid of the power of a devoted wife, Yama readily accepted and sent the crocodile to Yamalok or hell, and blessed Karva's husband with long life.

So from then on, women around the world dedicate this one day to their husband and fast for their long life.
The wife or even the to-be wife (in this case..moi), wakes up before dawn, bathes, prays and the mother-n-law gives you your sargi which involves gifts and dry fruits as custom. The girl then eats a meal which needs to have a delicacy called pheny(milk with like a noodle thing in it...it tastes ew!...sorry but i hate milk!) and then you dont have a thing (no food or water) till the moon comes out in the night and then you need to perform a prayer again and break your fast with your husband in front of you..if the husband is not available (like out of town) then break the fast with the help of his snap..(I swear..this is for real...cool or what?).

Well this was the information we all have received..untill i did some net surfing on the topic..(Hey I wanted to know more..) and this is what the REAL STORY is....

The fast of Karva Chauth is of particular importance to Hindu women as they believe it ensures the well-being, prosperity and longevity of their husbands. The origin of this festival was based on a very sweet and noble idea. Though this idea has lost its true sense as today the whole outlook of this festival has changed.

Long time back, girls used to get married at a very early stage, and had to go and live with their in-laws in other villages. If she had any problems with her husband or in-laws, she would have no one to talk to or seek support from. Her own parents and relatives would be quite far and unreachable. There used to be no telephones, buses and trains long ago. Thus the custom started that, at the time of marriage, when bride would reach her in-laws, she would befriend another woman there who would be her friend or sister for life. It would be like god-friends or god-sisters. Their friendship would be sanctified through a small Hindu ceremony right during the marriage.

Once the bride and this woman had become god-friends or god-sisters, they would remain so all their lives and recognize the relation as such. They would also treat each other like real sisters. During any difficulty later in life, involving even the husband or in-laws, these women would be able to confidently talk or seek help from each other. Thus Karva Chauth started as a festival to celebrate this friendship (relationship) between the once-brides and their god-friends (god-sisters). Praying and fasting for the sake of husband came later and is secondary. It was probably added, along with other mythical tales, to enhance the festival.

In any case, husband would always be associated with this festival, because the day of starting this holy friendship between two god-sisters was essentially the day of bride's marriage to him. Thus praying and fasting for him by his wife during a celebration of her relationship with the god-friend would be quite logical. Thus, originally Karva Chauth is once a year festival to renew and celebrate the relationship between god-friends (god-sisters). It had a tremendous social and cultural significance once when world lacked the ways to communicate and move around easily.

Return of the Mac

Okay then, was going through some serious blogger's block and guess I'm not the only one as I was just browsing through some other bloggers and surprisingly, they too haven't blogged for quite some time..

Well...Been quite busy these days

- Had a friend come down from India and spent time with him for a day.. He was telling me how he was just so busy with work and no time for relationships.. After he left, calls me a week later and tells me that he is getting married within 6 months to this girl he just met twice...!!!!! What can i say....congrats z!

- Redecorating the house so busy designing a few things in the room and shopping for them. Trust me doing up a house is hard work.

-Will be having my first karvachauth (fast for your husband's long life) this Thursday(20th October) and very sweetly my mother-n-law is coming down to Dubai especially to give me my first sargi(a gift as a gestre of goodwill :) ) so will be busy with her for the next 4 days.

- Also busy planning on what I want to do for this new year's eve. So looking at a few places to go (in India itself) .

- Since I am now engaged to get married soon (haven't fixed the date yet) so I really now have fun shopping little things for my new home. The other day I was clearing a wardrobe of mine where I had collected special things for the last 3 years keeping them entact with the thought that I will take this with me once I get married. One of the posessions I came across was this beautiful white laced diary which my best friend gifted me which has information to be filled in like, my first meeting with him, my first date, my wedding preparations... it's like a countdown book till my wedding and its beautiful... Planning to start on that...Its got slots that I can paste snaps as well. That is by far the best wedding gift I have received. Thta's something that will make me smile even 50 years down the line. That's J! Love you for that.

- Have been contemplating to start gymming for like a month now and I just need some heavy motivation.

So, that's what I have been upto..and I guess regular blogger resumes from today :)
I'm not giving up writing so easily.

What's Your Verdict?

5 days ago, a 3 year old girl went missing on the Al Naif Road in Dubai shopping with her mom for her school shoes.

She was starting pre-school and was very excited for her first day of school. She is small, chubby, dark and can hardly speak English. Her mother took her to buy her new shoes for her big day and while walking out of one shop to the next one, she was ahead of her thinking that she would obviously be following her mother after giving her a shout. Last she saw her daughter was behind her thanking her for buying her a lollipop. She walked in the next shop turning to find her daughter was missing. "She still must be standing out trying to fight the wrapper off the lollipop." the mother thought. She walked out. No daughter. She peeped into the adjacent shop. No daughter. She panicked.

Last week, there were appeals in the local newspapers to return her missing daughter. The appeal read something like this (can't remember the exact words).

"Please return my baby. She is small and only 3 years old. She is innocent and like any other child, very scared of being away from her mother. I don't know where she is,don't know whether she has eaten, don't know who is she with, don't know if she is hurt. But I'm begging you to please look around, look near your house, look near your workplace, spread the word to friends and family. This is a helpless mother pleading for your support. My husband and I work hard to make our ends meet,so that our daughter, our only child, can remain happy. We have no enemies and can't think of anybody who would like to hurt our child. Please help me find my daughter....Please bring me back my only child."

3 days later, the search was over.

The girl was found dead on the beach. Her body decomposed and unrecognisable.
Police still investigating.

What kind of a person that would have been who could do this to a 3 year old? What kind of a mind would that sick bastard have? How many cases of missing children go unnoticed? How many rape cases are unheard of?
What I want to know is that what makes them take this step? Sexual frustration? Revenge with the family?Or just another sick psychopath mind?

What's your verdict?
